Live Online Zoom Classes
Not ready to return to in-person classes at the studio?
Join our instructors for live classes hosted through Zoom, or watch later as recordings. Attend or watch as many classes as you want – registration is not required.
August Zoom classes run from the 3rd to 30th, but you’ll be able to access our library of recordings (including recordings from April to July) as of August 1st.
- Pay by credit card through your Mindbody account. A receipt will automatically be sent to you.
- Send an eTransfer to email@example.com ($48 + HST). Please be sure to include your name, email address and phone number in the notes. We’ll send you a receipt once we log your payment.
We’ll email all registrants on July 31st with a password and details for accessing our class login page. If you don’t receive this email, please notify us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Sometimes the audio or video in Zoom becomes choppy or distorted. What can I do to improve my Zoom experience?
1. Use the best Internet connection you can. In general:
- Wired connections are better than wireless connections.
- WiFi connections are better than cellular (3G/4G/LTE) connections.
2. Mute your microphone when you’re not speaking.
- When your microphone is on, Zoom will devote part of your Internet connection to an audio stream for you, even if you are not speaking. Mute your microphone when you do not need it, and you will allow Zoom use your Internet connection more effectively.
3. Stop your webcam video when you don’t need it.
- Start your video only when you need to show yourself on webcam, and stop your video when it isn’t needed. Disable HD webcam video.
4. Close other, unneeded applications on your computer.
- Zoom meetings can demand significant memory and processing power from your computer. Closing other applications, ones you do not need during the session, will help Zoom run better.
5. Avoid other activities that will steal bandwidth.
- Don’t start other bandwidth-intensive activities just before, or during, a Zoom meeting. On your Zoom device—and as much as possible, on other computers and devices that share your Internet connection—avoid:
- large downloads
- large uploads
- streaming video (e.g. Netflix, Hulu, YouTube)
- cloud backups
- cloud file synchronizations (e.g. OneDrive, Dropbox)
I’m having trouble launching Zoom from my web browser. Help!
We have heard that Internet Explorer sometimes gives problems, particularly with the audio. If you have a different browser on your computer (e.g. Google Chrome, Apple Safari, or Mozilla Firefox) we recommend trying that one instead. I’m using my phone – how will I be able to see the instructor?
Phone screens are pretty small! This is another reason we recommend using a tablet, laptop, connecting your device to a TV screen, or accessing through a Smart TV if you have one.
Our instructors are also really skilled in providing verbal cues and depending on how long you’ve been practicing, you may be able to get by without watching the instructor quite as closely as you normally would.
I’ve heard that Zoom meetings can sometimes have unwanted intruders or are susceptible to privacy problems. Is this safe?
We are aware of the issues with this platform, and have taken the recommended steps to maintain a safe space for all of our clients using it. We are using a paid version (not the free version) of the software. As well, we have the meetings set up with two layers of passwords (one to access the links to the meeting, one to enter the meeting), and have turned off the ability for guests to share what is seen on their computer screens with the group. Our instructors have the ability to mute or kick out any disruptive participants. We feel very comfortable that with all these measures combined, we won’t have any problems.
Will I need props?
Our instructors will be designing their classes so that you can use things you have around the house in place of any props you may need.
Do I need to have my video or audio on for the class?
It’s up to you! If you want to turn your video or audio on before class to say hi, or have your video on during class so the instructor can see you, that’s fine. We do ask that everyone’s microphones are on “mute” for the actual class. The instructor is able to turn your screen off or mute you as well.
